The Award’s organizers share a passion for business excellence and a desire to foster Canada’s next generation of entrepreneurs.

About the Organizers


	Wes Nicol Founder E-mail: wes.nicol@nicol-award.com Wesley M. Nicol is the founder of Tartan Homes, builder of hundreds of homes in the Ottawa area and the United States, and Nicol & Lazier, an Ottawa-based legal firm practicing in real estate and commercial law. Throughout his career Wes has maintained a strong commitment and passion for supporting his community and encouraging the spirit of entrepreneurship. He has served on the boards of numerous companies and non-profit organizations and is well known in the Ottawa area as an angel investor. His many related honors include the 2001 Carleton University Alumni Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and the 2011 CCSR Community Social Responsibility Award. Wes Nicol is also a generous philanthropist. He has used much of the proceeds from his businesses to establish the Wesley and Mary Nicol Charitable Foundation, and in 2011 received the Association of Fundraising Professionals Outstanding Individual Philanthropist Award. In addition to providing all of the funding for the Nicol Entrepreneurial Award, the Foundation also provided major funding to establish the Nicol Entrepreneurial Institute at Carleton University. Wes Nicol is a graduate of Carleton University and of Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1958. In 2006 Carleton University awarded him the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, in recognition of his contributions to the governance of the university, the health and spirit of the Ottawa community, and the nurturing of Canadian entrepreneurship.

	Peter Eddison National Director E-mail: eddison@reideddison.com Office: 613-746-9439 Peter is a founding partner of Reid Eddison Inc., a boutique management consulting firm that works primarily with high-growth technology companies across Canada and the United States. He was previously a co-founder of a number of Ottawa-area companies, including Mobius Software, Nabu Manufacturing, and Fulcrum Technologies, and from 2001 to 2005 was the President and CEO of AutoSkill International Inc., a leading provider of education software for the K-12 market. A graduate in Economics and a Tricolour Award winner from Queen’s University, Peter currently serves as the National Program Director for the Nicol Entrepreneurial Award. As National Program Director, Peter works with the participating Nicol universities to help administer the local competitions, and also oversees the National Competition in Ottawa.

	Pelly Heighton Producer E-mail: pelly.heighton@nicol-award.com Office: 613-798-9894 Pelly came to Next Wave Events from the High Tech Industry, where she spent fifteen years managing multi-million dollar, time critical programs with resounding success. Her attention to detail and strong organizational skills are a natural fit for the Events Industry. Pelly now oversees her company’s day-to-day operations as well as getting personally involved in many of the larger special events. As Nicol Award Producer, Pelly manages the National competition, coordinating the Judges and Finalists, as well as the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony each year.
