Open Selectively to Premier Canadian Universities

The Wes Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards was endowed in 1997 at Carleton University - the alma mater of founder, Wes Nicol. The program has been carefully expanded since its inaugural year through selective invitation.

Selection process

At present, The Wes Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards is open exclusively to Canadian universities. In the summer and autumn of each year, universities interested in participating submit their applications to the program organizers. Once a school has been approved, they do not need to reapply in subsequent years.

Participating Universities

Today the following fifteen Canadian universities host Local Competitions to select their top three teams for the national Nicol Entrepreneurial award held annually in Ottawa.

Local Schools (3 progress to National)

Regional Schools (3 progress to National)

This year the following eight Canadian universities will host Local Competitions to select their top business plans. The eight top business plans are then sent to Ottawa where the National judges will select the top three teams to compete in the National Nicol Entrepreneurial Award held annually in Ottawa.

Students from the following seven institutions first compete in a local competition on each of their campuses where the top 3 businesses at each school are selected to compete in the Regional Nicol LaunchPad $50K in early April. The top 3 teams from Nicol LaunchPad $50K will then go on to compete at the National Wes Nicol Award competition in Ottawa.
