2003 Nicol Entrepreneurial Awards Winners1st Prize - EllistarEllistar team: Jim Pedersen, Eliane Belanger, Fiona Shearer, Michael Britton. Jim and Fiona are undergraduate engineers at Carleton University. Eliane
is an undergraduate engineer at the University of Ottawa. Michael is an engineering graduate student at Carleton University. Ellistar is designing a line
of vehicle object detection systems capable of detecting people and objects in a moving vehicle's path or under the vehicle's chassis. These systems can
significantly reduce vehicle-related deaths and accidents. 2nd Prize - ImmerseSecond place in the competition went to Ben Thomson, and his business opportunity - Immerse. Ben is an undergraduate in the Sprott School of Business.
Immerse will offer one-to-one English language training for foreign students initially from the Far East. The foreign students will be billeted in the homes
of retired primary and secondary school teachers who will offer the training. 3rd Prize - iDashThe iDash team: Chris Verrilli, Kareem Sultan, Sandy Chiang, Eddie Nehme, Henry Tang. Chris and Edward are undergraduates in the Sprott School of Business. Kareem, Sandy and Henry are undergraduate engineers at Carleton. iDash plans to develop and produce a stand-alone entertainment and productivity unit easily installed in any vehicle. The unit will connect wirelessly with a home PC allowing easy transfer of files from desktop to vehicle. |
